Dental veneers are a procedure in which a covering made of porcelain or a composite is placed over the front of the tooth. At Cavanaugh Dental, we understand the importance of a beautiful smile. Our team is dedicated to helping you achieve the smile of your dreams with porcelain veneers. Whether you’re looking to enhance a single tooth or transform your entire smile, our personalized approach ensures that your veneers are tailored to your unique needs and preferences.

Dental veneers can correct teeth that are cracked, misshapen, or discolored in an easy procedure. Veneers are typically applied only to the visible parts of the teeth, such as when talking or smiling. There are two types of procedures used to place a veneer: direct and indirect.

Porcelain veneers are thin, custom-made shells designed to cover the front surface of your teeth. They are crafted from high-quality porcelain material that mimics the natural look of tooth enamel. Veneers are an excellent option for improving the appearance of your smile by addressing issues such as discoloration, chips, gaps, and misalignment.

What to Expect During the Procedure

The direct technique most commonly involves placing composite resin on the outside of the tooth using bonding. We will do this in our Lansing office by sculpting the veneers to your teeth rather than taking impressions and having a lab create the veneers. This method is usually used for smaller chips and cracks in teeth and can be done in one appointment.

The indirect technique typically involves two appointments because the veneers will be fabricated at a dental laboratory. At the first appointment, the teeth are prepared, impressions are taken of your teeth, and your teeth are given a temporary covering while the veneers are made. In two weeks, the veneers will have been completed fabrication at the dental laboratory and will be delivered back to our office. Your temporaries will then be removed, and the veneers will be bonded to the teeth. The laboratory-fabricated veneers are usually made using porcelain or pressed ceramic. This method has the best appearance and long-term results.

Placing porcelain veneers is a straightforward process that typically involves a few visits to our office. Here’s what you can expect:

  • Consultation: During your initial consultation, our dentists will discuss your goals and evaluate your oral health. She will take digital impressions of your teeth to create a precise model for your veneers, ensuring that every detail is perfect.
  • Preparation: To prepare your teeth for veneers, a small amount of enamel is gently removed from the surface. Our attention to detail ensures that this step is comfortable and that the veneers will fit seamlessly and look natural.
  • Temporary Veneers: While your custom veneers are being crafted in our dental laboratory, you’ll receive temporary veneers to protect your teeth and maintain the appearance of your smile.
  • Placement: Once your porcelain veneers are ready, you’ll return to our office for placement. We will carefully bond the veneers to your teeth, making any necessary adjustments to ensure a perfect fit.
  • Final Touches: After the veneers are securely in place, we will polish them to give your smile a radiant finish. You’ll leave our office with a stunning new smile that you can be proud of.
